Studies in the journal Archives of Internal Medicine tied air pollution to an increased risk for stroke and memory loss. Data from the Nurses’ Health Study showed that long-term exposure to both coarse and fine particulate matter was linked to a faster cognitive decline among older women. In another study, researchers noted a 34% higher stroke risk in the 24 hours following EPA reports of “moderate” levels of fine particulate air pollution compared with “good” readings
