PNJ.COM: BP Oil Cleanup Workers Join Up With Health Study

Carol Farmer is grateful that someone is finally taking a serious look into the health complaints of the workers and volunteers who cleaned up the oil from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill disaster.

“We all knew we were experiencing health problems, but if you don’t have money and access to health care, it’s a win for BP,” said Farmer, 52, of Milton. “No one knows about us, and BP can brush it under the carpet.”
Farmer was among 100 people – mostly oil spill cleanup workers and volunteers – who showed up at a community workshop in Gulf Breeze on Wednesday to learn about the Gulf Study, a long-term study conducted by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences on potential health impacts of the BP oil spill.
