The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Toledo Branch, in partnership with Toledo Metroparks, invites the general public to “Leave No Child Inside,” a program about reconnecting with nature. The program will be held starting at 5:30 p.m. on Wed., Sept. 21, 2011, in the Ward Pavilion of Wildwood Metropark, Central Ave. in Toledo.  Steve Pollick, award-winning columnist for The Blade, will speak on the philosophy espoused by Richard Louv in his Last Child in the Woods and on his own observations of “nature deficit disorder” and what can be done to cure it.
Also on the program are AAUW’s 2011 “Campership” winners, girls sponsored to attend hands-on science camp; Sister Rosine Sobczak, director of the Lourdes University’s “Life Lab” and  Science Alliance for Valuing the Environment (S.A.V.E.); AAUW/Toledo President Carol Leupp  with an overview of  the branch’s activities; an environmental education book table sponsored by “People Called Women” Bookstore; and a catered picnic-style supper of homemade mac & cheese, grilled hot dogs with trimmings, cole slaw, fresh fruit, and cookie bars.
To reserve a seat, send $10 per person, payable “AAUW/Toledo,” to Gail Conrad, 7821 Glenhill Dr., Sylvania, OH 43560 by Sept. 19.  Questions?
