EnviRN: Nurses Join National Call-In Day For Safer Chemicals: July 20, 2011

Join other nurses, health care professionals and interested consumers across the country as we ask our Senators to protect our families and patients from toxic chemicals.  It is unacceptable that chemicals are allowed on the market without being tested for their safety.  Let’s tell Congress that we want a change in the system!
On July 20, 2011 people like you are calling their Senators to ask for common sense limits on toxic chemicals.  Join this important effort and make the call, it will only take two minutes.
What YOU can do:
Call the capitol switchboard and ask to be connected to your Senator’s offices (202) 224-3121.  Each state has two Congressional Senators. If you do not know who they are simply go to our Find Your Elected Official page at and select your state.  When you call the office you will be connected to a senate staff person for your Senator or you will be asked toleave a message.  Simply indicate you are calling to ask Senator ___________ to co-sponsor and support the Safe Chemicals Act of 2011 (S. 847).  (See sample message below)
Sample Message
“Hi my name is ______________________.  I am a Registered Nurse and I am calling because I am deeply concerned about toxicchemicals in consumer products and their impact on my health, my family’s health and the health of my patients.  I’m calling Senator __________________ to ask him/her to co-sponsor the Safe Chemicals Act of 2011 (S.847) and to vigorously support its passage.  American families deserve to be protected from toxic chemicals in our homes, workplaces and communities.  As a Registered Nurse I see health issues linked to toxic chemicals such as cancer and respiratory diseases like asthma and believe Senator _____________ has a great opportunity to reduce or perhaps eliminate these costly health issues through his/her support.
Please make the Call and then let us know how it went by July 27th at our Chemical Policy blog at
To date 10 Senators have signed on as a co-sponsor
If the name of your senator is here, still call their office and say “Thank You” for their support.
