SAFER States and Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families, two health-based coalitions, released the new report – Healthy States: Protecting Families from Toxic Chemicals While Congress Lags Behind (http://blog.saferchemicals.org/2010/11/healthy-states-protecting-families-from-toxic-chemicals-while-congress-lags-behind.html). The report addresses the failure of the 111th Congress to pass pending legislation to overhaul the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976 (TSCA). The efforts to pass the legislation has been impacted by relentless opposition from the chemical industry.

The report underscores the important strides states have achieved in passing chemical policy reform legislation.  The report recognizes that states will continue to adopt their own chemical laws until Congress enacts a much needed overhaul of the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976 (TSCA).
