We are very pleased to announce the launch of the Collaborative on Health and the Environment’s new initiative on Healthy Aging and the Environment today.

As part of this transition, Maria Valenti, who has been a leading researcher, author and advocate on environmental health issues for almost two decades at Greater Boston Physicians for Social Responsibility, will officially become the national coordinator of CHE’s Healthy Aging and the Environment initiative in November 2010.

Some initial activities include:
1. Co-sponsoring a teleconference series based on the Environmental Threats to Healthy Aging report (http://www.agehealthy.org/), starting October 12, 2010. This series has been organized by the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD), a national leader in CHE’s Learning and Developmental Disabilities Initiative (LDDI). Please see AAIDD’s teleconference page for more information and to register for the calls at http://aaidd.org/ehi/content_3919.cfm?navID=306.
2. Collaborating on various projects with a number of major national organizations working on aging and related issues.
3. Continuing to use the Healthy Aging report and other materials to educate state and national leaders on the need for chemical policy reform.
4. Growing a cadre of speakers and users of the materials through presentations to groups around the country.
5. Developing derivative materials from the Healthy Aging report to be used for further outreach.
