Purpose: Earlier this year, EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson made Expanding the Conversation on Environmentalism and Working for Environmental Justice one of EPA’s top priorities. As part of EPA’s efforts to achieve this goal, EPA is committing to enhance its outreach efforts and work more closely with communities. Consistent with these goals, EPA will host this teleconference to discuss the following subjects. This teleconference is open to the public.
• Follow-up from Strengthening Environmental Justice Research and Decision Making: A Symposium on the Science of Disproportionate Environmental Health Impacts. At the conclusion of the Symposium, EPA pledged to report back to the participants within 100 days on the Agency’s plan to utilize recommendations made by those participants on how to improve science and decision-making to eliminate disparities in environmental health and achieve environmental justice. On June, 28, 2010, EPA provided an update on its pledge. This call will:
  provide an overview of the recommendations received as a result of the Symposium;
  outline EPA’s plan to review and incorporate the recommendations;
  reaffirm EPA’s commitment to work with community groups and the public to strengthen local environmental and human health outcomes; and
  provide participants with an opportunity to ask additional questions on the summary recommendations and submit additional recommendations.
Written comments and questions regarding this topic can be submitted prior to the call at: http://www.epa.gov/environmentaljustice/multimedia/albums/epa/disproportionate-impacts-symposium.html. If you intend on submitting comments or questions, please submit them no later than Tuesday, July 27, 2010. There will be a question and answer session at the end of the presentation.
• Update on other EPA activities
