Ohio is fast becoming a state where cancer cluster investigations are becoming the norm. The latest community to be included is Port Clinton, in Sandusky County. On March 30, 2010 the Ohio Department of Health announced they will be making Port Clinton cancer cluster investigation a “top priority”.

In 2009, the childhood cancer cluster in Clyde, Ohio was “top priority”. In this small northwestern town, 20 children have been diagnosed with cancer. The study has now been expanded to include parts of Sandusky County as well as parts of Ottawa and Erie Counties.

We have also learned of a possible cluster in Columbus, the state capital. Two children have been diagnosed with brain stem cancer. One of these little girls has died.  Both girls lived across the street from each other and attended the same school. The earliest cluster studies found were from 1975, and they continue.
