EPA Aging Initiative Listserve: Federal Guidance on Proper Disposal of Prescription Drugs

In 2009, the Office of National Drug Control Policy issued new guidance on the proper disposal of medications. The guidance recommends that pharmaceuticals not be flushed down the toilet or drain unless the label accompanying the patient information specifically states that it should be flushed. It also recommends taking advantage of a community household hazardous waste collection or a drug take back program in your community.
