Chemicals in pesticides, fuels, plastics, air pollution, detergents, industrial solvents, tobacco smoke, prescription drugs, food additives, metals and personal care products interfere with natural hormones and have been linked to an increased risk of breast cancer and other health problems. The Environmental Hormone Disruption Research Act, recently introduced by U.S. Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY), would establish a comprehensive research program to better understand the impact of hormone-disrupting pollutants in the environment on the health of women and children.
